Youth Connect in 2010
With the end of the year fast approaching we thought we’d let you know some of the exciting projects and programs we will be working on in 2010. Our work in schools in the Bayside, Glen Eira and Kingston region will continue through our comprehensive VET Brokerage and support for Applied Learning. Early in 2010 we will publish the range of programs we will be offering to schools. There will be a cost to access these programs as well as the opportunity to join our Applied Learning Cluster which will enable schools to access the complete range of programs and activities we offer.
We will also continue our work in schools in Port Phillip, Stonnington and Yarra with the addition of the City of Boroondarra. Our recently introduced Youth Diversion program Right Step has already seen some fantastic outcomes for young people which we look forward to see develop through 2010.
VET Brokerage and SWL Support
We will be continuing to offer a broad range of VET Programs. There are already over 100 students enrolled in these programs. In 2010 we are introducing a Certificate II in Transport and Logistics (Logistics Operations)and Certificate II in Information Technology at the Godfrey Street Neighbourhood House in Bentleigh. Our comprehensive SWL support will continue providing students with work placement induction and individual support where required to access an appropriate and relevant work placement. This support includes visiting each student during their placement.
Applied Learning Support in Schools
Youth Connect will continue to work in and with schools in the Kingston, Bayside and Glen Eira region to provide a comprehensive range of careers and industry activities and programs including incursions and excursions in areas including:
• I.T. , Computer Programming, Building and Construction , Engineering, Aerospace, Architecture, Journalism and Creative Arts.
Our Parents as Careers Transition Support (PACTS) workshops which took place in over 20 schools and community settings during 2009 will also continue. We will be implementing a fee structure for the delivery of these workshops which will be available early in the New Year. Should schools decided to join our cluster PACTS workshops will be one of the suite of programs schools will have access to.
New Programs
We are excited to announce that we will be delivery the new Youth Connections program in the Local Government areas of Port Phillip, Stonnington and Boroondarra with KYM. Through this program we will assist young people in schools who are most at risk of disengaging from school. This will include supporting these young people to develop a re-engagement plan focusing on sustaining their engagement and participation in schooling or other education and training pathways.
Through Youth Connections we will be working in the community to support young people who are severely disengaged from education, training, work, family and the community. We will be working closely with the local government youth service providers as well as other support agencies.
2010 will see some changes in how we work with and in schools, training organisations and business. These changes will enable us to build sustainable community capacity to ensure that young people have the appropriate supports in place to enable them to make choices about their pathway through education, training and work.
Please contact Danny Schwarz or Daniela Ascone should you have any questions on ph: 9557 6233.
On behalf of all the staff at Youth Connect, we would like to thank you all for your ongoing support and wish you all a Safe and Happy Christmas. We look forward to working with you in 2010.
Regards,
Danny Schwarz
