VCE VET Retail Operations
The Retail Industry is one of the largest employers in Australia. Retail is a great pathway for people who enjoy working with others in a team environment. The VET Retail certificate has been designed to give you an introduction to the industry and show you some of the exciting possibilities available to you in this industry. Theory and practical placement components of this program are delivered at the Family Life Store in Cheltenham. Opportunities are available for you to further develop your skills by doing work placement at other retail stores.

Work Placement
40 hours / 5 days.
Students complete the theory and practical placement components of this program at the Family Life Store in Cheltenham which is a functioning retail environment. There may be opportunities for further work placement at other retail stores.
Selection Criteria
Information session held in Term 4, 2011.
Sample Program Outline
- Perform stock control procedures
- Perform housekeeping duties
- Apply safe working practices
- Minimise theft
- Apply point of sale handling procedures
- Interact with customers
- Balance register terminal
- Communicate in the workplace
- Operate retail equipment
- Work effectively in retail
Materials
Students will need to wear appropriate clothing whilst on work placement. This must be suitable for a retail environment and inexpensive i.e. black pants/skirt and plain shirt but no denim.
Basic stationery is required for written components.
Contribution
VCAL counts towards Industry Specific Skills and Work Related Skills strand.
VCE will provide credit at Units 1 and 2 level.
